From the world renowned wildlife in the Maasai Mara to the beautiful white sanded beaches on the coastline, Kenya is without a doubt one of the most beautiful countries in Africa.

Here at Marafiki Community International, we are dedicated to encouraging and facilitating sustainable development projects in underprivileged areas throughout Kenya, empowering people in local communities. With help from our incredible volunteers, we are making a difference that will last a lifetime.

Need even more convincing to get involved? Here are five reasons to volunteer in the beautiful country of Kenya…

1. To make sustainable change
The most important part of your volunteering experience is to ensure that the change you will be making is long lasting and wholly beneficial to the local   communities. By volunteering with a project who’s main goal is to make sustainable change, you will be contributing to the empowerment of Kenyans across the country, which will be passed onto future generations again and again.

2. Become part of a community
Kenyans are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people you could wish to meet. You will be greeted into their group like a family member and will be looked after like one too. Not only this, but there’s a pretty high probability that you will be surrounded by like-minded fellow volunteers and before you know it, you will be a part of a community that you will never want to say goodbye too.

3. Immerse yourself in a diverse culture
Kenya has a diverse and interesting culture which you will be immediately drawn too. With over 70 different ethnic groups which all have differences in tradition, dress and dance, there is just so much to learn about, and learn from. [photo: Maasai Village]

4. Explore the country
With your time off, you will have the chance to explore everything Kenya has to offer. From a safari in the Maasai Mara and climbing the Pride Rock which inspired The Lion King, to hiking Mount Long’onot and chilling on the white sanded beaches in Mombasa, you can rest assure that you will have the best time travelling around the country.

5. Gain a new perspective
Volunteering in Kenya is challenging and can push you to your limits but you can be assured that it will be fully worth it. It can be hard both emotionally and physically, but your time and effort here is so incredibly appreciated, with your support an important part of Kenyan communities futures.
